Methodology

Computed by stonks: nominal US GDP (series us-gdp, BEA NIPA table 1.1.5, seasonally adjusted annual rate, reported in millions of dollars) scaled to raw dollars and divided by US resident population (series united-states-population, World Bank annual estimate). The annual population figure is step-aligned to each quarterly GDP observation (most recent estimate on or before the GDP quarter-end date, never interpolated). Distinct from united-states-gdp-per-capita (World Bank's own annual GDP-per-capita indicator, computed by the World Bank from annual GDP and population): this series updates quarterly, on stonks' GDP cadence, using BEA's SAAR nominal GDP rather than the World Bank's annual figure.
