Methodology
EIA series MCSSTUS1 (U.S. ending stocks of crude oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, thousand barrels), monthly, via the EIA API v2. Genuinely volatile at the start of history: the SPR was created in 1977 and its first fill-up months compound from a near-zero base, each exceeding a 40% month-over-month increase.
