Methodology
Computed by stonks: nominal total public debt outstanding (series us-national-debt, in raw USD) divided by US resident population (series united-states-population, World Bank annual estimate). The annual population figure is step-aligned to each monthly debt observation (most recent population estimate on or before the debt date, never interpolated), so the per-person figure updates monthly on the numerator while the denominator refreshes once a year.
